Cookie

This is a book review about a book I finished reading for the second time last night called Cookie.

Cookie is by the famous children's writer Jacqueline Wilson. It is her latest book and the second one of hers I've read, it's one of those books that you never want to put down!
Cookie was illustrated by Nick Sharratt and published by Doubleday.

Cookie is about a 12 year old girl called Beauty Cookson, she absoloutly hates her name because she's totally NOT beautiful, unlike the school bully Skye. Beauty's life wouldn't exactly be great without being bullied, her dad has anger-management problems and understands none of Beauty's problems. Unless he's in a VERY good mood, anything can set him off, especially any untidyness, rudeness or rule-breaking in their expensive six bedroom house. For her 13th birthday Beauty's dad gets a little bit carried away and hires a super-strech limo to a west-end show which Beauty never asked for or wanted, she knows something is going to go wrong...and just about everything does, apart from getting the best birthday present she ever had. In the end Beauty and her mum Dilly (who have a new found talent for baking cookies) can't take any more of dad's ranting and raging and run away from home for ever. Will they find a new home? Will beauty finally find a school where she isn't teased? Are they about to discover a whole new life? read it to find out!

Here is the blurb by the way:

Beauty Cookson is really not very beautiful. She's plain and timid and all the girls at school are super-confident and snooty. They think her nane is ridiculous and have come up with a new one for her - Ugly. Worse than the teasing in the playground, though, is the hurtful critisism from her father. Beauty and her mum live in fear of dad's rages - sparked off when they break one of his fussy house rules, suggest something 'silly' like getting a pet, or if Beauty refuses to wear an outfit he's bought her. But Beauty's mum adores her and finds ways to keep Beauty happy dispite all the shouting. Together they discover a new hobby - baking cookies - and a new nickname is born. After Beauty's disasterous birthday, dad's temper seems to be out of control. Can mum and Beauty bear it any longer? Or can they find a way to start a sweet new life?

Please buy this book, you know you want to!
